My Hairstory JHB was a LITuation!

by | May 6, 2018 | Events, My Hair Story

The first MyHairStory event in Johannesburg, on 5 May 2018, was a hit. The natural hair community came out in support of more than 20 home grown brands including The Moisture Factory, Ruutos, True Curls and so many more. If not all, then definitely most of the Johannesburg based natural hair influencers were there making sure that those who didn’t come suffered serious FOMO.

The event was sponsored by 26 brands, with the biggest sponsor of the day, My Natural Hair, pulling out all of the stops – calling for the HairVolution and unapologetically stating that Curlies, Kinkies and Coilies can (and should) RUN the world! The power to change the status quo of beauty is in their hands.

The live hair tutorials by My Natural Hair, in partnership with Indalo Nubian Naturals Salon, and other major sponsor Shea Moisture, birthed practical and beautiful ideas that will keep natural heads protectively styled this winter.

It may have been a big risk to host the event so soon after the Freedom Day weekend, but the event managed to pull more than 300 guests throughout the day. For a first timer in Johannesburg, this was no easy feat and it was due to the partnership with natural influencers Joan from Jems of a Natural blog, Yolanda from Yolz Channel on Youtube, Ncomeka from Wooden Mirror the Blog, Unathi from Natural Dilemma blog and The Chocolate Hair Sisters.

The gorgeous market space, accented by the shady trees of the ULP House venue in Midrand, was buzzing! The My Natural Hair Conversation space was full. The giveaways were plenty. The good vibes were tangible, with our DJ and performer Beaucy Nkosi adding their talent to the atmosphere.

The organizer of the event is making its mark in the natural hair space by building a platform where natural hair ambassadors can inspire, businesses are empowered, and the community can connect. It will soon launch its e-commerce platform on the website, which will power its vision to meet the needs of naturals all over South Africa and Africa!
